Defining “Home”
Hearth is a graphic design thesis sub-project that delves into the concept of what transforms a space into a home. Initially inspired by the Tiny House movement, this project evolved into a broader exploration of the elements that contribute to the feeling of home. Alongside a classmate, I curated found media from online sources and compiled it into a zine. This zine was designed to raise awareness of diverse living arrangements and challenge traditional notions of home.
Our collaborative effort sought to answer questions about the essence of home: Is it determined by location, material, surroundings, or furniture? We envisioned distributing the zine in everyday locations—such as doctors' offices, coffee shops, salons, and libraries—to provoke thought and inspire new perspectives. This innovative approach eventually led us to develop our own individual thesis projects, each reflecting our unique insights and interpretations of what it means to call a place "home."
